Bâtirente is pleased to announce 3 new appointments to its Board of Directors
Bâtirente is an organization under union governance, whose democratic values are based on those of the CSN. Like you, most of our directors come from unionized environments or from the CSN. We are pleased to announce, in a press release today, the appointment of three people to our Board of Directors: Vice-Chair: Hélène Jacques, independent member of the board since March 2019, corporate director and strategic consultant, particularly related to institutional investment. In this role, Ms. Jacques replaces Nathalie Arguin, General Secretary of the CSN, who was a member of Bâtirente’s Board for the past 10 years. CSN-designated member: Simon Mathieu Malenfant of the Syndicat des employés de magasins et de bureaux de la SAQ (SEMB-SAQ) union and Vice-President, Treasury, of the Fédération des employées et employés de services publics (FEESP-CSN). Group representative: Kevin Gagnon of the Syndicat des Travailleuses et Travailleurs de Bridgestone de Joliette (CSN) union and Vice-President of Training, Health & Safety and Environment for the Fédération de l’industrie manufacturière (FIM-CSN). Bâtirente’s commitment to its members is at the heart of its actions and decisions. Our deep-rooted union values are also expressed in our governance system through the composition of our Board. The latter comprises three categories of members:
  • Groups, which include you, have five representatives on the Board.
  • The CSN designates four representatives.
  • The Board appoints two independent members.
All of the above individuals are elected during the annual general meeting (AGM). In 2022, the AGM will take place on June 15th. Did you know that your group representative is invited, too? Their participation in our AGM gives you a voice, plus they have the right to vote on the election of directors, adoption of financial statements, and appointment of auditors. Did you know that this year marks the 35th anniversary of Bâtirente’s founding? Indeed, in response to the pressing needs of their union members, the CSN entrusted Bâtirente with an important mission in 1987—to establish a retirement system for workers. And that’s how Bâtirente came to build a complete and solid retirement system under union governance. Truly a unique institution! Today, you belong to a community of over 25,000 members from 300 labour groups across Québec.
